This week, I’ve been thinking about the demonstration of faith. If we had to define faith simply, it would be “believing God’s word and acting on it,” but passion must accompany faith. Throughout the word of God, we never see faith that isn’t accompanied by passion. God isn’t moved by desperate situations. He’s moved by those who act by faith! If we believe God, our lives will demonstrate that passion. We see this truth throughout the Bible.
Mark 2:1-5 says,
‘A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”’
Those men would not have torn off the roof to get to Jesus without faith that their friend would be made well if they could just get him to the healer.
Mark 5:25-34 is another example of that kind of faith. It says,
‘And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your disease.”’
She said to herself, “If I can just touch even the corner of His robe, I know I’ll be healed.” With that kind of faith, she was healed. Many people in that crowd brushed against Jesus. I’m certain some of them had needs, but her faith drew His power.
We must allow our faith to grow to the point that we can no longer sit still in our situation. There is an element of perseverance in every Bible story where someone’s faith drew heaven’s power. God always moves when faith is activated in the face of opposition. Think about it! It was hard enough that those four men carried their paralyzed friend to Jesus. It would have been easy for them to turn around and try again another day when they realized they wouldn’t be able to get to Him, but their faith pushed through the crowd and onto the roof.
Don’t you want the kind of faith that tears the roof off to get to Jesus? Don’t you want the kind of faith that pushes through the crowd to touch the hem of His garment?
There has to be something inside of us that says, “I must get to Him.”
That kind of faith will change our lives and turn the world upside down.
Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
By His stripes, we are healed.
The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in every believer.
We will find Him when we seek Him with all our hearts.
By faith, we will overcome every obstacle that comes against us, knowing He will meet us there.
The story of Daniel and the lion’s den is a great example and it’s not just a story for children. Daniel was a Godly man in a heathen nation. There were jealous men because of the favor Daniel carried, so they tricked the king into issuing an edict they knew would convict him. The king issued a law that there could be no prayer to anyone but him for 30 days. Daniel 6:10 says,
“Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”
Just as he had done before.
See, Daniel did the same thing, but it required more faith when faced with a law that would convict him to death. He stood for righteousness and God shut the mouth of the lions and his accusers. He ended up with more favor after persecution than before it!
It is when things get difficult that we must press into the Word of God and spend time in His presence. It’s when our faith is tested that God will meet us in power. God is glorified in circumstances that He alone can resolve! There are more than enough promises in the word of God to carry us through any situation we’re facing.
Will you let your faith be activated today by the truth of God’s word? Will you have the kind of faith that presses in, tears off the roof, and says I must have Him?
Leonard Ravenhill said,
“The only reason we don’t have revival is because we’re willing to live without it.”
Determine in your heart today that you are unwilling to live with anything less than the promises of His word. He is waiting for us to step out in faith!
